Project Stephenson is a volunteer organization whose sole purpose is the beautification and improvement of the community. Project Stephenson is an all-volunteer non-profit organization whose sole purpose is the beautification and improvement of the community. Once again flower planting has been accomplished in Stephenson, with the help of the following: Audrey Loskot, Crystal Plutchak, Lisa Kronick, Bea Gerue, Virginia Dishneau, Irene Dishneau, Virginia Parrett, Gary and Bev Anderson, Alv and Sharon Etelamsaki, Loren and Ann Hulsizer, the Wally Majkrzak family, Judie Hohmann, Pauline Leaveck, Shirley Leaveck, Jan and Ken Poisson, Rich and Pat Smith, Bill Winter, Amanda Schmies, Ron and Donna Corey, and Pete and Jean Getzen. Those tilling the curbs were Loren Hulsizer, Alvin Etelamaki, and Pete Getzen. In addition, others helped to tend the flowers are Judy St. Juliana, Betty Parrett, Marla Tuinstra, and Gabriella Derusha. An antique plow has been added to the depot park. The plow was donated to Project Stephenson by the Glen Halfrisch family of Stephenson. Jan Poisson and Jean Getzen made yellow bows for the wagon and for the trees in Veterans’ Park New patriotic banners were purchased by Project Stephenson and are up in the city. Those contributing monetary gifts this spring were: Gordon Herson, Carl Peterson, Mildred Rickaby, Rich Fries, Alv and Sharon Etelamaki, Loren and Ann Hulsizer, Marian Gruenstern, John Svinicki, Ken Kiszely, Caroline Schultz, and Barb Wangerin, and Lorraine Wangerin (in memory of Floyd Wangerin). Dick Breyer contributed a large barrel for watering the flowers. The collections of aluminum cans and plastic bottles is an ongoing project and they can be dropped off at the “can building”, near the city garages. In addition, Project Stephenson would like to thank Stephenson residents for keeping up their yards and homes. We’ve had so many compliments on what a nice looking community we have.
